In the area of sanitation, progress has been made over the years. However, 20% of the population still uses unimproved sources or open defecation. Half of the people belong to the poorest population groups (43,5%, 2016). Only half of the population nationwide use flush toilets connected to a septic tank, and two third have no access to sewage facilities (66,6% in 2016). Due to unclean food, water and sanitation, infectious diseases such as bacterial diarrhoea, Hepatitis A & E and typhoid fever arise. (Central Intelligence Agency, 2015).

Toilet Project Sisneri (2023) In March 2023, we supported the village Sisneri in Far West Nepal, building 13 toilets in their community. Previously, the 19 households only had one proper toilet, and most had to go for open defecation. We could inspect the 13 finished toilets in mid-June, which are incredibly important, especially in the rainy season. |
Toilet Project Naya Basti (2016) The slum village Naya Basti (Chitwan) of 180 households used dogged holes wrapped around with fabric or plastic as toilets. Especially in monsoon season, those got very slippery, and not a few times people slipped. Also, diseases arose easier. We built 30 toilets for the community. Toilet Project Naya Basti (2018) From the beginning of 2018, we built five more toilets for households in the same community that could not install them themselves. |
