School Rebuilding project
The devastating earthquake that hit Nepal on the 25th of April 2015 lays already eight years behind. This magnitude earthquake of 7.8 left more than 9000 deaths, thousands of injured people, and many hundred thousands of people homeless and caused this huge damage throughout the country. Even three years later, there still existed temporary shelter for the Nepalese without a home. In those circumstances, children have been vulnerable and at risk of being trafficked. Altogether over 35000 classrooms have been destroyed or severely damaged through the earthquake. Many of the students are still learning in temporary classrooms. Offering children a normal school day reduces the risk of neglect, exploitation and violence.
Much rebuilding work has been done in the last years, either through the government or much more through the initiative and the work from organizations and volunteers.
We are very thankful for the huge amount of donations coming in from abroad, which made it possible that the NGO "Himalaya Asha Kendra" (Himalaya Hope Center) could rebuild the Naulingeshwari School in Langarche in the Sindupalchok region, North East of Kathmandu.
